[[Fluff for de Loki and Me only. Sorry loves! ^__^]]
It was a seeminly quiet winters night. The moon was high; The air was cool; and feint traces of snow was falling from the night sky. It was ideal for a lovers stroll or conception, but tonight, for one family of warriors it was quite a different air indeed. In the large residence the Hanoshiro's called home for many a year, the smell of blood could make someone sick. There was blood that tainted the new snow that was enough to turn a modern person's stomach. But to Kyo, it was that look, that taste, that smell of blood that excited him most of all.
A woman screamed. A man cackled. It was the kind of thing that children would hear in only their worst nightmares. But the sight of it was much worse. A man drenched in blood stood over the body of a recently deceased woman, chuckling. His red eyes pierced the black blanket of the night, seeming to have a surreal glow of their own as he brought his sword up to his mouth and licked the blood from the blade.
"Hmm just as I imagined," he said with a fanged smirk, looking down at his latest victim, "The prettier they are, the sweeter their blood tastes. It's complete magic."
Kyo looked around the dark room. He could smell the blood so heavy it was nearly intoxicating to him. As an assasin, he loved his job. Honestly, he didn't need a lord to have a reason to kill people. But he had to have money to survive and this fat fool was loaded with it. Why he was asking a person of Kyo's great power to kill these moratals so weak and unfitting was beyond him. It still wasn't enough to challange him. It wasn't enough to satisfy his lust for a real fight, or so he guessed. Kyo wasn't quite sure. All he knew was that he yeared for something. Something more. But he couldn't put his finger on it. So he would continue his duty until he found it. At least he could make a hansome sum as he had fun too.
Kyo walked about the house careful to step over the bodies of dozens that littered the grounds. There really were a lot of people who lived in such a home. A lot of pathetic weaklings in Kyo's eyes. Only the strong survive. The weak were meant to fall to their knees before their proven superior, their blood staining the earth as they die a warriors dream. It was Kyo's firm belif and he was determined to follow through with it until he found what he was looking for, someone who could give him a real chance. Maybe even someone who could give him a warrior's death, sending him straight to hell with a smirk on his face.
He sighed. There was no one left alive.
"How dissapointing," he said in a low grumble, running a hand through his long black bangs, "Not a single worthy adversary in the bunch. And these were rumored to be some of the fiercest warriors of the Emperor had to offer in the war. How pathetic."
He turned to walk out the door into the falling snow when a sound caught his ear. It was of a door opening and closing. Then there was a heartbeat, a quickened heartbeat, that played melodically to Kyo's ears. His mouth tugged up once again in his terrifying smirk as he turned around and looked at the fool who had dared to make their presence known instead of hiding like a smart person would have. It seemed to be a young male, judging from his scent and stance. He had a large sword which he held in front of him with a bit of a tremble behind it.
"There you are," he said to the boy, "I knew there had to be at least one more person left who's blood I've yet to taste. You are either extreemly brave or extreemly foolish, boy. Either way, your demise is assured. But before I kill you, I shall like to know the name of the person who thought he was brave enough to stand against the mighty Kyo no Yokai."

It was the true definition of a rude awakening. He'd heard the screams of the few maidens the house possesed, mostly cleaning women. But it was the recognizable scream of his master's wife that had made him start. Whatever was happening... it had made it to his master's bedroom. Kenta scrambled up, still dressed from the previous day (his training had been so tough, he couldn't help but just collapse) and he dashed out of his room into the hall. He could hear footsteps and cackling, and from the line of dead bodies Kenta knew exactly where he'd gone. He snuck around into his master's room, the door still ajar, and witnessed something that made his stomach turn.
"M-Master..." Kenta saw his master's wife upon the floor, breast ripped open, lifeless eyes stained eternal with fear. Around the other side of the bed was his master, collapsed with one outstretched arm reaching for his sword and sheild. He'd been stabbed through the back, and blood still gushed up through the open wound. Kenta ran to the corner and promptly rid himself of last night's dinner. Who could have done all this? His master was the most skilled warrior he'd ever met... Now he was gone?
As the assasin crept through the halls, Kenta stayed still in his master's bedroom. Despite his fear, something rushed through his veins that insisted he move, insisted he seek vengance on his fallen lord and face- if not defeat- his killer. So he snuck out of the room, down to the main hall where the assasin stood, licking blood from his weapon. Tall and well-built with no trace of remourse in those blood-chilling eyes. Immediately Kenta was seized by fear once again. There was no way he could face him head on like that. His master had been killed and here was Kenta, not even done with his training. Wouldn't it be better if he lived and trained, to come back and kill him in the future?
That's what Kenta decided on, and he turned on his heal before the assasin could notice his presence. He silently ran out the back door... but cursed it's need of oil! It creaked, and Kenta gulped as his boots sunk into the fresh snow. His running was sloppy and sooner rather than later, the assasin caught up to him. Kenta fell flat on his face, got up, and pivoted to face the male.
He took a deep breath and stated himself clearly. He would die with pride, if that's what fate had in store for him. "I am Ketamine Tranxene, Squire under Sir Nicolaus Hanoshiro. And you... I can't allow you to get away with what you did!" Kenta's eyes dripped hot tears, which ran down his face and fell, burning holes in the snow. He was having trouble even weilding his sword, he didn't have a clue on how he'd appropriately stick it through him. He clenched his teeth and moved, aiming to stick his sword straight through Kyo's chest. He had to try, or he'd die in vain.

It was all so grand! So amusing! The boy was going to take a stand next up to him. Well, he was hardly a boy in the moonlight, but he still appeared to be at least a couple years younger than Kyo himself. And for knees as wobbly as his and his unsteady hand he still seemed determined to seek vengance. Kyo's chilling laugh rang out into the silent night.
"You seem pretty determined boy," Kyo said with his eye never moving from his victim, "This amuses me. You are clearly outmatched and yet you are still determined to take a stand. To fight the man even your master failed to kill. Tell me boy, do you honestly expect to win? This really is too good!"
He was replied to when the boy brought his sword to him. He smiled and caught the blade with ease. Though his hand was being only slightly cut, he still held the sword firmly against the weak boy. The boy tried to move his blade either back or forward but it remained in the bloodied hand of his opponent, who only smirked at him and licked the blood from his own hand. The boy was very entertaining to him, not to mention probably as frail as a woman. His pale skin and chartreuse eyes seemed to glow without the moon as his hazel hair blew with the wind. He was much shorter than Kyo but his eyes held a rare spirit that Kyo remembered in himself once.
"You have potential," he said with a deep chill, "I can see why your master took you on. But you still lack a great deal of training. Unfortunately, it still would not have saved you. What are you even doing with a sword boy? You barely know how to use it. I would not have even granted you use to a real one until you learned the finesse behind the blade and learn to use it to your own liking. Till then, you are not even worth my time, child. Because of this Why don't you go back to the village below and tell this tale? How you were spared by the great assasin Kyo no Yokai. You will be the first, for I have spared no one else in my missions. Go and live out your life happily and I warn you to take my advice. Should you follow me, I will be forced to retract my decision without another thought. Do you understand?"
Kyo let his sword go, kind of thrusting hit back at him. Then with a turn, he started to leave, his dark cape billowing behind him. Once he got to the door he stopped and looked back over his shoulder once again at the boy.
"And I highly suggest you learn the proper use of that weapon Kenta," he said in an honest tone, "It will save your life in the future."
Then without another word he dissapeared into the shadows.

When Kyo released his sword, Kenta just stabbed it weakly into the earth, collapsing onto his knees as he clutched the hilt. He was so useless... his entire household was murdered and here was the killer, deciding to spare him on a whim, and sending him off with a cute little legacy? What did he think, he could make friends with the local drunkards for being the 'first pansy ever spared by the demon Kyo'? The thought was rediculous. What would he do now? One chartreuse eye flicked over to the shadows as Kyo disappeared, and he collapsed entirely, burying his head shamefully into the snow. What was he supposed to do? He'd just let him get away...
Kenta had no choice but to take his advice and head downhill to the village. He stood up an brushed himself off, taking his sword and pushing it back in it's sheath. His bangs fell heavily over his eyes as he trudged back to town, too disgusted with himself to even set foot back into his master's household. There was nothing in there that he needed that he could not replace, or simply live without. The only thing Kenta knew anymore, was that he had to find somewhere to train... and some way to track down the assasin. As he slid into town, Kenta looked at the wanted posters. There was Kyo, pasted bigger than any other picture on there. Kenta glared at it and tore it down, rolling it up and sticking it in with his sword in the sheith. He would never forget the face of that man. He wouldn't let himself. He had to find the demon man again... and he'd just make himself stronger on the way. He couldn't let the trail go cold.

Kyo sighed as he continued to walk in the forest outside his latest victims. Had he gone soft? He had never before let anyone go. But for some reason, his mind told him that Kenta may prove to be useful in the future. If only for a challanger. The boy had a lot of spirit in his eyes and some serious potential. All he needed was the proper motivation. And what better way to motivate someone than by killing all who were dear to them. He imagined Kenta's blood to be boiling right now, if he was the man Kyo thought he was.
To be spared by Kyo might have been the biggest insult to him ever. If he hadn't already killed himself, he was probably making an amusing attempt to take Kyo's advice to train. He knew that the boy had no intention of settling down into a peaceful life until Kyo was dead. Honestly, Kyo looked forward to it. Perhaps this boy was the one to finally deliver him to Hell, or maybe he would be just another pretty victim for the body count. Either way, it all left Kyo elated.
"Train hard, Kenta," he said to the wind as if expecting to carry to his ears somehow, "I will be waiting."
He looked around until he found a suitable tree. Kyo wasn't the tent camping type unless there was a war. Then he would have preffered a tent to his own away from the other soilders. Given his perfession, Kyo naturally lived the life of a loner. It was what his fate seemed to be.
After settling himself safely, a single white dove came and rested on his shoulder. He looked over and took the message from the birds leg.
Inform me at once of your mission status.
I have another assignment for you pending your obvious success.
-Gikoto
"Insolent fat hog," Kyo grumbled taking a bloodied handkerchief and tying it to the birds leg along with a paper with a small seal on it, "Of course it was successful. I don't know why I put up with that bastard."
Then he sent the bird on it's way. The snow was still falling and the forest was very quiet. Kyo took his sword and placed it on his legs that were straightened out on the branch. Then he crossed his arms over his chest and fell asleep, his ears still ever moving for any sign of danger.

"Hehehe! Birdy! Shoot it, Jeremy!" Children's voices rang out in the village at the bottom of the hill. A group of small boys with their bows aimed at the sky shot at the dove, one of them actually hitting it. Kenta looked down as the bird fall by his feet. A white dove with an arrow in it's breast sure was a sobering sight. Kenta mourned for it as he did his fallen friends, comrades and master. He took a step back, the other two arrows that had been fired fell to the ground, imapaling the snow where he'd been standing. Kenta sighed and examined the bird, with a bloodied rag around it's leg. Bloodied rag? who would send out a bird with a bloody rag tied on? Especially, a white dove. Could it be...? The dove had flown from the forest... could Kyo have sent it? Did he settle in the forest for the night? He supposed, it was worth checking.
The kids ran over to inspect their catch. Kenta shook his head. "You kids better run for your asses, you hear, if your mothers find out you shot down a dove you'll never hear the end of it. That thing's a sacred bird, have you no manners? Go on, I won't tell if you run." Kenta said, his voice still smooth despite how many tears he'd shed. He turned and walked away as the kids ran, believing him when he said they were dead meat if they were caught. Kenta headed up into the woods.
The woods were silent at this late hour. Even a few steps into the trees and the sounds of children out late, playing in the snow was already faded. Kenta's boots crushed the twigs below his feet. The snow hardly covered the ground under the canopy. It would be the perfect place for someone to hide out for a few nights. You wouldn't find any place warmer. Kenta froze when he heard someone cursing quietly. He sunk to the ground, paralyzed once more. Was it... was it him? He wasn't ready to confront him again tonight... not unless he could catch him asleep. Kenta would wait there, and then puncture his vitals when he slept. It was the easiest way. His only fear now, was that the longer he took, the more his rage against the assasin would die. He couldn't let that happen, not until he'd successfully killed him.

Kyo was no fool. If there was anything he prided himself in, it was being ACUTELY aware of his surroundings. Not a flake of snow fell without his keen senses picking it up. He knew that Kenta was there, watching, and waiting for his moment. Kyo sensed that his dove probably had something to do with it, otherwise the boy would not have been so quick to find him.
Kenta was a sharp boy. Kyo had to give him that. Had he not been the man he was, he would have liked to take this boy under his wing. But as it was, he needed absolute solitude. It was vital to his job. Not to mention, it would have been hard to do his job successfully with Kenta triping over things and otherwise making a mess until he could learn to properly fight.
Kyo smiled only a little. There was nothing that didn't say he couldn't have some fun first. He would let the boy be secure in his judgements. This little experiance might even teach him a thing or two. So he closed his eyes, steadied his breathing, and remaind completely still. To the common eye, anyone would guess the hansome assasin to be asleep. But...to the trained eye, he was a lion, waiting for his prey.

Kenta waited, hearing the breathing slow and movement cease. He slinked around the trees, making as little noise as he was capable of. If he'd just drifted off, then he was still in light sleep. He waited a few more minutes, to make sure he wasn't going to wake up on him. Ten minutes... that's when someone entered the first phase of sleep, and it would be safe to move around them.
Kenta looked at the sleeping assasin. He hadn't budged an inch in ten minutes. He had to be asleep... But didn't most people roll, turn or atleast wiggle a little in their sleep? Maybe it was because he was sleeping in the forest. Or maybe because he was really tired. Kenta didn't have enough time to consider the what-ifs, he just wanted Kyo dead, and this was the only chance he'd get to do it! Swiftly drawing a dagger from his belt, Kenta creeped over and knelt at Kyo's side, holding the dagger above Kyo's heart, before proceeding to plunge it downward, eyes shut as he waited for the tell-tale splat.

Kyo listened closely as the boy moved. Then he heard the boy jump up to the branch he was on, which was impressive in itself. He knew this boy had potenital. He waited until the boy was close enough and heard the rush of his fist. Just then his eyes shot open as he grabbed the boy by the wrist with a seductive smirk on his face.
"What a wake up call," he said with a deep throated chucke. In an instand he used the boys own wrist and turned him around so he was sitting in Kyo's lap. Kyo wrapped his other arm around the boy, pressing Kenta's back to his chest, and holding him close.
"That was naughty," he said in almost a low growl as his breath tickled the boys ear, "You are the first ever I have allowed to escape my wrath and this is how you repay me? So ungreatful."
He took the boys wrist which was still in his hand, easily overpowering him, and forcing the dagger to rub lightly on the boys cheek. He could feel the boy tremble and it excited him. He loved ever inch of fear he could smell on Kenta and his rapid breathing and heartbeat was music to his ears. His crimson eyes surveyed the boy by the inch. His small frame. His delecate skin. His soft hair. In this moonlight he was...beautiful.
"Your heart sounds about ready to flee and leave you behind," he said this time in a low whisper, nipping the boys ear with his lips only lightly, "Tell me, young one, do I fighten you that much? Have you ever really tasted fear? It's a rush, isn't it? Your mind goes numb and you are suddenly out of control with your body. All that is left to function are your insticts. Whether your insticts are correct is what makes you a great fighter...and a great killer. So now that you within my grasp, paralyzed with fear, what do your insticts tell you to do?"

Kenta gasped, now firmly in the clutches of this assasin, in all senses of the term. He wiggled and writhed in his grip. He'd probably rather fall out of the tree than remain like this. But alas, Kyo easily had him overpowered. Kenta was afraid, and the fear was numbing him. He'd never been so scared before at any time in his life. He'd even been happy as he set out on his own, leaving behind his parents, hometown and anything he knew for knight's training. His eyes had glistened at his ideals of chivalry, he'd looked so forward to it. As a squire, he hadn't even been entrusted with a horse yet... and it now seemed unlikely he'd ever get one.
"M-My instincts?" Kenta shivered every time that man spoke. He carefully shifted forward, as much as Kyo would let him, moving his neck to drop down to his chest. He took a sharp breath and held it, smashing his head backwards into that of his captor. Kenta used his second of weakness to break from his grasp, flip around on the branch, and stare him down like a real man. "Since you wanted to know so badly. And i'm not young." Kenta was quickly expending whatever courage he had just to look at Kyo. But he'd last until he couldn't any longer. And he was 19, a man by all standards. Certainly not young, though still in the youth of his life.

Kyo had been trained for anything, except that. He must have admitted to being a little embarrased at expecting Kenta to melt into his arms. But then again, he forgot the boy's spark. He knew that this boy could actually be the one to pose a challange to him. But he couldn't just stand for this sort of treatment. Luckilly he only caught him in the cheek because he had turned his head in time. When the boy stood up, the 21 year old stood to his full intemidating height.
He walked on the branch with grace like a cat, and then went over to the boy.
"You are very obviously not a boy," the man said with a sick smirk, his crimson eyes once again running over the body of the younger, "Your physique, however, lacks a bit which would lead one to think you are younger. This is caused my undernourishment and lack of training. Both of which I can remedy if you would like to follow a /real/ master. I can also teach you to overcome fear and turn it into power. I can alone can make your wildest fantasies come true. However...."
The silent night was interrupted by a loud sound of skin hitting skin as Kyo slapped Kenta cross the face, It was so hard that it forced the boy to fall from the tree. In an instant, Kyo was on the ground and had his knee in Kenta's back and his sword to the back of the boys neck. He leaned down with a chuckle and spoke in his year again as the boy was face down in the snow.
"Such insolence I cannot tolerate," he said, " You are learning quickly Kenta. I couldn't be prouder. I knew you were going to magnificent when I looked in your eyes earlier. You struck me as a true warrior. But you still lack the initial component to kill me and that is lust. Allow me to teach you these components. Allow me to mold you into the warrior you wanted to be and teach you all that I know."
He then reached down and took a bang out of the boy's face. Then he stroked his cheek lightly and smiled. Kenta really was magnificent.
"Or," he said, "I can release you from your worldly teathers right now and you can be with your master forever. The choice is up to you. Either one will be to my pleasure."

The burning slap was cooled by the snow-covered ground, and Kenta could feel the sword pointed at the back of his throat. Kyo really wasn't giving him much of a choice. Kenta knew if he died now, he'd never get the chance to kill Kyo, but he wasn't sure if he could stomach learning under Kyo himself anyways. But as he'd pointed out to himself... he didn't have a choice. He didn't know if he could beat Kyo with Kyo's own training, but, he would have to try. Besides, it would be the best way to keep an eye on the assasin. He certainly wouldn't lose him if they were traveling together.
He turned his head to the side to be able to speak. "...Fine." Kenta said, not obviously consenting to either choice. "If I don't live, you'll never die." Kenta said in defeat. He'd have to learn from Kyo. "So it's not like I have anything to live for other than being a warrior." Kenta cringed. He could just see the dissapointed face of his mother, when she caught news he'd followed an assasin. But wouldn't she be more ashamed of him if he simply let Kyo go, and found a new master? Kenta sighed. He hoped he was making the right decision. He just didn't want to be sent back to his parents in a box, at age 19.
When he was allowed to move again, he sat up and put a hand to his forehead. He had a trail of blood running from under his bangs down around his nose. He'd really smacked into the ground from the unexpected smack. It's a good thing it was a short tree.

Kyo smiled. He knew that would be the boy's answer. Even if he had chose death, Kyo would have reminded him of that little fact. He knew that would have been a way to get the boy's goat. Kyo didn't know why he wanted this boy alive so much. Maybe in time he would find out the answer. But for now...
"You know what they say," he said watching the blood leak from the boys head, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."
It was all Kyo could stand as his crimson eye surveyed the blood. He walked over to the smaller male, taking a hand on each of his cheeks so that he could examine the wound. The boy looked up at him, fear evident in his eyes. Kyo got another rush of excitement so he leaned down with a smirk and licked the blood from the boy's head. It was so sweet and warm down his throat, It sent a small shiver down his spine, causing his smirk to become a pleasured smile. Then he reached into the napsack he had with him and too out a piece of cloth and gauze. He gently cleaned the wound. As Kenta tried to protest he hushed him with a simple glare and began to wrap his head, gently moving his hair out of the way. He was well aware that his face was very close to Kenta's. Centemeters apart, but for the sake of exhaustion, he ignored the thoughts going through his mind.
"I will not have you bleeding all over the place," he said finishing up, "Now, we are going to be traveling through these woods for a bit so I suggest you go back to the village and gather some supplies and another tunic. If you run away, it is your loss because I will dissapear and you will never see me again. Then your revenge will be incomplete and you can not avenge your master, so I trust you will not go any farther than that village, hm? I am going back to the tree to get some sleep. When you return, I suggest you do the same. We will wake by dawn to get some early morning conditioning in before we hit the road again. Understand?"

Kenta winced at the feel of Kyo's tongue on his skin. It wasn't that it wasn't warm, soft and an otherwise human tongue, despite the fact Kenta had so much expected it to be cold and slimy. Just... the contact. He couldn't help but shiver with the assasin so close. Something about his very presence made Kenta feel so incredibly vulnerable. Kenta could only nod to his orders.
Kenta's trip to town was highly uneventful. He almost had to beg a tunic out of the shopkeeper, seeing as squires were supposed to be totally reliant on their masters for food, clothing and anything money would normally provide. It was basically knight school's meathod of keeping their recruits from running. Needless to say, Kenta was a bit short on cash.
He made it back to Kyo with little more than he'd left with. his spare clothes and anything extra were tied into the leather sack on his belt. He looked up at the tree, seeing Kyo in it sleeping. He didn't dare test him again to see if he was really sleeping this time. Kenta just settled in on the ground against the tree below Kyo, allowing his long hair to fall and cover whatever exposed skin was left on his face. He dosed off, in hopes of waking up and finding this was all a dream.

Kyo woke up for a brief moment, watching the younger settle in. He was still racking his brain as to why he was doing all of this for Kenta. He saw a lot of himself in the boy. It was uncanny and a little annerving. Kyo wasn't always the blood thirsty assasin he was today. At one time he was happy with his family. He, too, had treams of becoming a night and helping to save the land. It all started when his beloved mother remarried...
Kyo frowned and closed his eyes. He had worked hard to supress the memories of the past, not letting them affect him. He had the rest of his life and wefare to look out for. And now, he had another to care for as well. It would definately be a different experiance for him, training Kenta, but he would do it right. He would make sure the boy realized that harsh realities could be supressed. He would teach him that only by shutting away the past can true progress be achieved. He would personally make sure that he, nor anyone else, could take advantage of the boy ever again. Kenta was too good for that. For some reason, he had it in his head to make Kenta everything he had wanted to be, which in itself would be a masterful feat.
"Sleep well Kenta," he said softly as he took one last look and closed his eyes, "For the morning brings hell upon you."
Dawn peeked meekly over the horizon. The snow had stopped falling and instead made a beautiful new blanket with which to cover the earth. Kyo came back from reliving himself in the forest and saw Kenta still asleep. He was smiling and Kyo wondered what in the world would cause such a smile. He took a moment to admire him. He wanted so badly at that moment to wake the boy with.....
He shook his head violently. Where in the hell did that thought come from? It must have just been the way the light was hitting the boy, making him appear to be so feminine. Instead he walked over and gave the boy a hard kick in the rear.
"Get up," he said in a gruff manner, "And perpare yourself. Your training begins now."
Kyo took his sword and threw it aside. He did some stretching, popping some various joints and then looked over at the boy. He smirked at his displeasure.
"Before you can learn to fight with a sword," he said sagely, "You must learn to fight with your fists. Hand to hand combat improves strength, speed, agility, and strategy. All of these are important elements of combat, sword fighting, and life. Without these, you will fall to those you overpower you, such as myself. Always remember; The weak always fall prey to the strong. It is the balance of things. Now tell me Kenta, what sort of combat training has your former master given you? I want to know what I have to work with and what you should work on."

Kenta groaned, so rudely awakened from sleep. To be honest, he hadn't gotten that much sleep in a while. His master did crazy things, like training him well past midnight or waking him up at random intervals of the night. He usually woke before dawn, since his master had tasked him with helping all the serving women fetch water, since he was stronger and could carry more.
He brushed the snow that had settled off the top of his head, and then got up and brushed down the rest of him. He watched Kyo curiously as he stretched. "He used to tell me that fist fighting was a load of bullock, and suited only for barbarians." Kenta replied honestly. He'd never learned hand-to-hand combat, even as a child he was sheltered from the other boys who would brawl recklessly in the streets. "And when you think about it, sword form and fight fighting really have no similarities..." Kenta scratched the back of his head and looked away. He was really best at being contradictory, and he'd probably get smacked for his insolence. At least he wasn't standing in a tree, this time.
"But knights are trained to use the sword as an extension of their own limbs... so we never go through any other type of combat. I've only been trained to weild a sword."

Kyo's eye twitched. Such insolence! He reached out and was about to smack the boy when he thought better of it. He just smirked and shook his head.
"Your master was a fool...who lost to me," he said, eyes boring into the younger, "Perhaps if he had not been so strict to the code of the sword only, he might have stood a chance. Hand to hand combat strenthens your hand eye cordination in conjuncion with your reflexes. For example..."
He quickly ran to Kenta and socked him a good one in the stomach, then proceeded to do some fancy footwork to where he wheeled around and elbowed the boy in the back, forcing him to the ground. Kyo smirked in satisfaction. Soon Kenta would learn to keep his mouth shut for Kyo did not get mad, he got even.
"There you see," he said walking around to stand in front of the fallen Kenta once again, "Had you been properly trained in combat, you could have easily blocked that. Your opponent may not always use a sword, Kenta. The world is full of bad people who will do /anything/ to make it to the top. You will have to learn to be more open minded to these techniques that I will teach you. They will save your life. Say you are facing an opponent in a sword battle and your sword and thrust from your hand far enough away that you cannot reach it. Then what? Die at the hands of your opponent? If you are weak of will, you will die. Or, you can suprise your opponent with a few punches to some vital areas of their body, leaving them temporarily paralized. This allows you the time you need to gather your sword and fight once again. This will also allow you to win. Or if you both are fighting with a sword and he choses to use the hilt of his sword and his fist to beat you down. With the proper quick thinking and footwork, you are allowe to easily dodge his brutish manuvers. This also allows you to win. Hand to hand combat forces you to think on your feet, performing the art of quick strategy. If it works, you will be victorious. If you fail to think, you are likely to lose a limb or worse. Even the great samurai are forced to master hand to hand combat first before they can take up a sword. Combat trains your ears to enhance, sight to react , your feet to work swiftly, your brain to function fully at amazing speed, and your hands to force your opponent into complete submission. Now for your first lesson, defense. Use the strong bones in your arms and legs to block attacks. Take no time to worry about your attack, just worry about not getting hit."
Kyo came at him, launching an assult of extreemly fast punches and kicks. Some actually connected with the boys face and shoulders. He was being his usual ruthless self, but also taking it considerably lighter than he would with anyone else. The boy said he had not been trained in fighting, so he didn't want to ruff him up...too bad.
"Remember," Kyo said, "Rely on your ears first, then your eyes. You can ear drums can catch the sound of the rushing wind faster than your eye can adjust to see the punch."
[[This reminds me so much of Piccolo training Gohan. And remember, whatever injuries Kenta gets Kyo has to take care ooooffff. *smirk*~<3]]

Kenta wished he'd just made it far enouh in his training to be endowed with some hevy armour. As it was, the only things plated were his boots, wrists and forearms. Therefore, he used that to his advantage and did his best to block the strikes with his arms. It wasn't like he could even begin to see them coming. It looked like a random assault to Kenta, who just peered out from behind his guarding arms. Despite his efforts, Kyo did land hits on him, just about everywhere above the belt. Kenta was glad his tunic was lightly padded. Still, he would've perferred some chainmail.
"I don't know what you're talking about~" Kenta groaned, then went for his last resort. He dropped quickly to his knees and delivered Kyo a swift punch to the shin, with his fingers armoured and everything. Maybe it would stop the ferocious assault. "Dammit, do you always beat the new recruits?" Kenta mumbled, without ever making eye contact. Once on the ground, those punches had taken enough out of Kenta to make it so he was going to stay down. He rested on his hands and knees below Kyo, busy catching his breath. He still couldn't look the killer in the eyes, but his fear had subsided substantially. Probably knowing now, that Kyo was no longer out to kill him. It seemed he might do it by accident though...

Kyo groaned a bit, but grinned at the same time. A suckerpunch to the shin. The boy was learning fast. Kyo winces as he came back, favoring the leg that had been hit. But he made no noise or indication of the extreem pain he felt. He walked forward again and looked down at the boy.
"A sword is only a tool wielded to the strength and will of it's master," Kyo said watching the top of his head, "It can't always protect you when you need it. If one is trained in body and mind first, the tool will be weilded masterfully. But to the feeble of mind and weak of body, a sword is no better than a stick, and will be rendered utterly useless."
Kyo bent down to overlook the boy's injuries. Nothing too bad. A few scrapes and bruses maybe, but Kyo could tell he had exaused him already. Kenta still refused to look Kyo in the eye. But he was still not afraid of him as he was when they started.
"We are making progress already," he said running a hand over the reddened area of his face, "But we still have a long way to go. Also..."
Kyo reached over and took the sword from the boy examining it. The boy made a quick protest but Kyo silenced him with a finger on his lips, looking Kenta right in the eyes.
"You will get this back when you master hand to hand," he said with a smirk, "But for now, you don't need it. You can't even use it masterfully and until you can it is useless to you. Now, eat quickly. We are leaving now."
Kyo got up. His shin really hurt but he didn't let it show. He picked up his napsack, digging an extra biscut and meat pie out of it and scarfed them down quickly. Then he turned and looked at the trail they would be traveling.
"Oh and," he said givng Kenta a dangerous look, "You mouth off to me again, I will strip you of your clothing and throw you into the nearest river. Understand?"

Kenta looked over in Kyo's general direction. He couldn't tell if he was being courteous or a pervert by getting him out of his clothing before throwing him in a river. He struggled to his feet, feeling the shift in weight from the emptier side of his belt. The sword and sheith were no longer there to counterbalance his sack of things. To lighten his load he did as Kyo said and ate, though not much. A roll of hard tack and small jar of local jelly were about all he could sacrifice to his meal of the day. As he said, he'd been too poor to afford anything else, especially anything involving meat. That was a rare treat.
As Kenta chewed half-heartedly on the piece of stale bread, his eyes wandered to the same place Kyo's were. It was, in fact, in the general direction of his home town. If they followed the path he suspected they would, any rivers they found would be nice and warm, and free-flowing from the hot springs by his native village. In fact, once they left the forest, any water they needed would be easy to get. It was mostly farm and wet lands until they hit civilization again. The only thing not flat would be the small mountain range (more like a hill range) where the springs all stemmed from. The air was humid even in the dead of winter.
Kenta tapped his fingers impatiently, wondering when they'd go. But he didn't dare ask... he wasn't about to give Kyo an excuse to see him suffer... or naked, for that matter.
