The Story
Centuries ago, the kingdom of Atlantis lay in the Mediterranean Sea off of the coast of the kingdom of Egypt. Powerful, Altantis became, but soon their power became corrupted and they were punished by God. Plato describes that in a single day and night of misfortune, Altantis disappeared into the depths of the sea.
The people of Atlantis were Druids. During wars between Altantis and the older kingdoms of our past, the defenders were stunned by the power and majesty of the Druids. Many of the gods in ancient cultures were based on these great people. When Atlantis disappeared, some of the Druids fled the kingdom before death could take away their immortality. Some ventured to the island-lake of Avalon in what would be the kingdom of King Arthur. Others traveled to Hellenes.
Hellenes, now commonly known as Greece, was a land rich with people who had a lot of influence from other nations. Being a seafaring country, they had heard of the unfortunate happenings in Atlantis, but they still became victim to a plot by the Dark Druids moving into Hellenes.
The Dark Druids, led by the most powerful Zeus, convinced the people of Hellenes that they were gods. Dozens of temples and monuments were built for them and they settled at the peak of Mount Olympus, further enforcing their position from the mountain. They were worshipped. They were respected.
History knows Eris as the goddess of chaos and lies, but Eris was not always a goddess. She was a girl of seventeen who had fallen in love with a boy of twenty-two, Damien.
Her spiral into the world of gods came about from a competition. Damien had taken her to the Olympic Games, a celebration held every year during the harvest season. Everyone was there, even the gods.
At the end of the competition, Damien walked Eris through the forest and onto her home. During the trip, they talked of their wedding to happen in four days time and Damien proclaimed in the heart of a meadow, "My love is only for you. I will never love another for you are the kindest and most beautiful."
In the shadows, Aphrodite arched an eyebrow at the pair. She had also taken to the forest to escape the throngs that seemed to worship her incredible beauty. Upon hearing Damien's claim, Aphrodite smiled wickedly. Her godly face and body had wooed men in the past. Damien would be no different. She would prove to Eris that Aphrodite indeed was the most beautiful.
That night, as Damien lay in his cottage, Aphrodite appeared before him wrapped in silks from kingdoms in Asia. She moved toward the man and tempted him with her elegance. To her surprise, Damien remained faithful to Eris and refused the Dark Druidess.
Druids, by nature, are jealous beings and this rejection by Damien infuriated Aphrodite. In her anger, she murdered him in his home and, at sunrise, brought his body to Eris.
Aphrodite held her smile in place as Eris broke before the shattered remains of her fiance. Imagine the Dark Druidesses surprise as Eris raged, "You have not won! You have seperated us in life, but I will one day join him in death! This proves that love is more powerful than the gods!"
Aphrodite hurried to Mt. Olympus and requested presence with the queen of the gods, Hera. Like Aphrodite, Hera too had become victim to her jealousy. Her husband, Zeus, gave himself to more women than history can count and Hera was willing to punish a mortal to vent her rage. Hera and Aphrodite both used their powers as Dark Druidesses to curse Eris.
Eris became immortal. Upon hearing this, Eris tried repeatedly to end her life. Throughout history, Eris has been 'killed' thirty-seven times. Once, during the French Revolution, Eris was beheaded and her body was placed in a trunk. Three men were to take this trunk to the river and cast it into the water, but on the way there, a knocking came from the trunk. Imagine their surprise when Eris stepped out of the trunk in one piece.
Though Eris became immortal, she did not share this glory of the gods. Hera and Aphrodite told everyone in the kingdom, even the gods, that Eris was the goddess of discord and that she spent her time weaving lies. No one would believe her story.
Time has changed Eris. Her once stunning black hair altered to a ghostly white. She has learned to train her body to defend herself, but never acquired the magic of the gods. Life is never-ending. Life is worthless.
And she will never see Damien again.
How She Got Here
