Mana sat up and glared. But then realized she had opened her eyes to two shirtless men and closed them again as she looked to the side proudly. A hint of a blush was creeping up on her fine features.
"I," she said lifting a hand up lazily and pointing toward the window, "Broke the window. YOU locked the door and jammed it with a dagger. So who did most damage here, shrimp. Not I."
Her stomach gurgled unceremoniously. She ignored it and looked at Mithos. He seemed to be watching her expression with amusement. As if he wanted to make her situation worse because she had been so fowl. She narrowed her eyes as if trying to read his mind. She gave him a look as if to say, "If you two start making out, I am going to kill myself."
Then she turned her back to them once again, digging in her bag. She came out with a piece of paper and a pencil and began to doodle. She had to do something to keep herself occupied from them for the rest of the night. She might actually be able to get her personal projects done this way.

"That a promise?" Ren asked with a perked eyebrow, then folded his arms proudly. "As if that would ever happen! Rediculous. The heat has made you delusional." Ren was quick to denounce the idea before any blush could creep onto him. "Or maybe you're just like this all the time. Somehow, I feel such pity for your brother."
Ren listened as her stomach growled, which reminded him of his own hunger. He'd be fine as long as she didn't keep it up... he could go without food for days, he just didn't do it unless it was totally necessary. He'd definitly be eating a full lunch regardless of what they served, tomarrow...
"Yea, Mithy, i'd say be glad you neck wasn't in full striking distance of my leg." Ren said, refusing to accept that it wasn't because his neck was far away, it was that his leg was short.

"I pity him too," Mana snapped back at him, not caring anymore than he was exposed, "For having too kind a heart to pass up lonley social rejects like you. He really should choose his friends better, but it is his life. And I didn't SAY anything. I think I would kill you first though, if you were ever to touch my brother so inappropriately..."
She sat there with the worst scowel possible on her face. She knew that Mithos was probably going to snap at her for those comments. She knew he hated being dragged into things. But they sounded good at the time. She mearely crossed her arms in front of her chest and waited the tention to explode. It was already to a boiling point at it was....literally.

Mithos opened his mouth to snap at both his sister and his friend, then sudenly thought better of it. That wouldn't do any good, only make it worse. So, he did the next best thing. Swinging himself off the table suddenly, he crossed to Ren, pulled the smaller boy to him with a hand on the back of his neck and kissed him, hard.

Ren spazzmed through a plethora of emotions. The first was grabbing hopelessly at Mithy's chest, in hopes that something he could claw into would be there. He probably just ended up giving Mithy one hell of a scratch though... he could hardly be blamed for it. The most embarrasing emotion, however, was most likely when his mind shut down completely out of shock, leaving Ren tenderly smootching onto his newest friend. Golden eyes fluttered shut, and actually /enjoying/ it.
Of course, bliss never lasted forever, and Ren panicked again before long. With a gasp and a jump, he weakly wriggled from Mithy's grip, blushing the colors of the rainbow. He looked at him with shocked eyes, and promptly proceeded to faint, from just that. He'd just been kissed... his first real kiss, really... and it was by his friend? Suddenly Ren was inclined to accept being kissed by a spirit as his first... Ren was already messed up on friendship enough, as it was.

Mana stood there. Her stomach did flipflops and suddenly she wasn't hungry anymore. Her face was pale and all she could do was gape as he performed hit hanis act. Soon as she could feel her legs again, she went over to the door and tried with all her might to open it agian. When it wouldn't budge she banged on it loudly.
"HELLLLLPPPP," she cried out, "IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE, FEEL FREE TO BUST ME OUT NOW!!! IM LOCKED IN HERE WITH A PAIR OF FUCKIN' FAIRIES!!!!! QUEERS!!! HELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
When silence and a couple of odd looks was her only reward, she headed toward the window. It was starting to look real good at that moment. She was so repulsed she wanted to jump out. She couldn't believe Mithos, her beloved brother would do such a thing. She looked at the pavement down below. Was it worth a broken leg or two? Most likely. But she wasn't going to do it. Instead she wheeled on Mithos, eyes blazing.
"You really do hate me don't you," she hissed, "You want to see the last thread of my sanity cut. You WANT to see me locked away in a padded room somewhere don't you? That way you would be rid of me and my foolish issues. Am I right? AM I RIGHT? Now...now I know your true motive Mithos. Well if you wanted me gone so badly why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you just let me kill my self that horrible year? At least that way you would be an only child and not have to deal with an annoying sister to make your life hell simply because of her sob stories and pathetic problems. This is...this is just unforgivable Mithos. You have pushed it over the edge now and no freakin game is going to fix this. You got it? AND YOU, *eyes bore into Ren* you better not have enjoyed that, fucking sick bastard."
She could not believe all of this venom was coming out of her mouth. And what killed her the most is the truth of her words. Since she had come along, she had been nothing but a burden to him and to Tom. She should have been locked away long ago but for some reason they kept her around. And she hated talking to Mithos like this. It killed her. She loved him with all of her being.
Shit, she thought as she felt a familiar sting behind her eyes, I will not let HIM see me like this.
"You know what," she said as she crossed arms and turned her back, "Do what you please! Don't mind me, I will just be over here trying to salvage what's left of my sanity. I don't need you. Like my father, I too can be a loner. It dosen't bother me. I hope you two will be very happy together, seeing as how since HE came along you neglected to give a shit about my feelings anyway. It's not like anything is going to really change, oh! Other than the fact that your children are going TO LOOK LIKE DOGS!!"
Now she knew she was just sounding childish and stupid. She was more ashamed of herself than anything. But she didn't want anyone else to know it. So she just went into the darkest corner of the room, taking her bag, and began to write in her notebook again. She had never felt so dirty. But it wasn't the sweat doing it. Her insides turned as she leaned her head against the wall. She felt upset and very, VERY dizzy. She leaned against the wall as she slid down into a sitting position, drawing her knees up to her chest. Tears fell silently from her as she closed her eyes to keep the floor from spinning. She figured that getting so worked up was probably sending her into overheating status. But instead of saying anything, she kept quiet and tried to get a handle on herself. It wasn't working. She just leaned there against the wall feeling dizzy, sick, and weaker than she had ever felt before.

Mithos caught Ren and sat him against the wall, then turned to his sister in shock. That she dared even think such things appalled him, and when she went to sulk, he stalked over and picked her up by the collar of her shirt, holding her well off the ground and looking at her for a long moment. "Don't be such a silly little girl." He hissed, almost tempted to slam her into the wall a couple of times. Maybe it would knock some sense into her. "Don't you ever even go thinking things like that again. I spent three years without a sister once, and I'm never doing it again. And Tom. Tom loves you even more than I do, for God's sake, anyone can see that. Now come on. Ren is one boy. If I can put up with him because of who he is, so can you." He told her sternly, moving to the window and sitting Mana on a desk. "Getting worked up isn't going to do anyone any good now, is it?"

Mana sat in shocked silence for a moment. She could tell Mithos had had enough and his words hit home. She was being a silly little girl, wasn't she? Surely being near Ren brouhgt out the worst in her. And looking back, she didn't like the image she saw of herself. She was hotheaded and childish, and all over just one man? It was rediculous. It was not who Mana was. Mana was calm, poised, intellegent, and confident. She was only rarely hotheaded when she needed to be. She closed her eyes, picturing her father.
What would you do, she asked mentally, I miss you so much. It always seemed that anything you said made sense. But then again, I see a lot of that in Mithos. This is why I can't stay mad at him.
To forgive, divine, Her father's voice echoed in her head. Was he really there, watching her? He did say that they would always be together. What if he and her mother were watching now. What would they say? She saw them shake their heads dissapointedly. This was like a knife to her gut. That dissapointed look from her father had always gotten the best of her, but now it was her mother too. Were they ashamed of her? No. She wouldn't have this. All she had ever done was in the name of them. Any achievement, any strength, and victory, was all for them. So that they would be proud from beyond the grave. Her eyes snapped open as she looked around the oven of a room. She looked over at Ren. He looked so...so helpless leaning agianst the wall. Mana guess that even he could not be strong and horrible all the time. Then again, he was just kissed by his friend. What would she do if Ellie kissed her? She shuddered a bit with a small blush. Probably the same thing. Perhaps...for Mithos...and for her parents...she would learn to let it all go.
"As usual," she said quietly in English, "You are right Mithos. It's time for me to grow up eh? My father is dead. I suppose hating Ren won't bring him back and it really doesn't do anything but cause you grief. After all that has happened between us, after the way you saved my life, I owe you more than this. I won't guarentee that I won't snap from time to time. But they will only because he can be an irritating person sometimes. You should know that one of my greatest pleasures is knocking a man off his high horse. But for you...and for them...I will let it all go and start over again. The last thing I would want to do is dissapoint those I love...those who love me. It will take sometime. You, of all people, should know and understand how deep of a wound this is. And I still haven't fully healed after all these years. But I am going to try. Even if I have to ignore Ren for the first few days to get over it....no....that wouldn't do any good either. Tom always said if we had a problem we were to face it head on. Only then would anything be solved. Because I love you, I'm willing to be a man *winks* and deal with issue within myself as needed."
She hopped off the desk with a smile. She was going to do what she had always loved about being with Mithos. She wrapped her arms around him and gave him a big hug. There was nothing in this world for unsolved issues than one of her brothers hugs. It was as if the rest of the world had dissapeared for a brief moment and all you could feel was his warmth around you, comforting you from any troubles that tried to eat at you. It was, perhaps, the most powerful part of his therapy to her in those years of her solitude.
"Besides," she whispered in Japanese with a hint of playfullness, "His ego is too big for you to handle. You may need help from time to time because if you handle him as a friend as you handled him as an opponent in kickboxing class today, you stand no chance on your own."
She pecked him on the cheek and let go, looking out the window at the night sky. Judging by the position of the moon, it was about 8 or so. Her stomach gave another horrible growl as she looked down and touched it. She had delt with hunger from before. It was perhaps Helga's cooking that gave her this temporary weakness. She sighed and went over to one of the desks sitting on it.
"Soon we are all going to go crazy, " she said in a matter-of-fact tone, "Have we looked at all our options of esacpe? I wonder how big the vents are in this joint...."

Mithos smiled, wrapping his arms around his sister, then chuckling softly. "You're right, I suppose." He conceeded with a small smile, leaning back against the desk and watching Mana. At the comment about the vents, he laughed. "Big enough for you or Ren, maybe, but certainly not me." He replied, shrugging his broad shoulders with another snigger, then becoming a little more subdued. "...I'm glad." He said simply, shifting his gaze to the sky outside. "That you're going to work it out. And you know, I meant what I said, in kickboxing. I won't have people talking to my little sister like that."

Ren had rose to semi-conciousness in a few minutes, his eyes fluttered open but he remained silent as he listened to Mithos consoling his sister. He could probably get through to her better than anyone else could, though he somehow doubted it would just be as easy as a promise. After all, he himself now beared a grudge against Mana. He wouldn't just take all those insults to his family and shrug them off, not after he'd worked so hard to reform the family. He'd get an apology if he had to beat it out of her.
A blush spread back to his cheeks as his eyes moved over to Mithy, lovingly embracing his sister. He had to admit, only part of the blush was due to his mere presence after that... But if he dared put himself in Mana's place, he saw so much of his sister then in Mithos. With that, his blush then spread more fervently and he redirected his vision out the window. The moon was risen and the stars were bright, though still dimmer than those in China. Nonetheless... They were stunning from whatever piece of dirt you stood on.
He shifted as the conversation in the room stopped and switched to escape methods. They'd already broken a window, how much more could they be charged for vandalism? Ren, at this point, didn't care. He'd pay it out of his pocket if need be, they were more than deep enough. He silently summoned Bason to his side, the ghost now floting in a smaller, less threatening form beside his sholder.
"Ne, How much property damage do we want to cause in one night? I already punched a hole in the door. Wouldn't be too much to just knock it down now. I suppose, that I could get us out." Ren said so and his ghost nodded. "For Bocchama, it is easy!"

Mana smiled at Mithos. His presence, his aura, it was enough for a king. Mithos was a very rare person indeed. He was strong, both physically and mentally. He was always ready for whatever came his way....perhaps except....
No, she would not think of that now. She looked up at the vents then frowned as she crossed her arms. It would not be easy. Then she heard the boys make small talk of the vandalism charges that could possibly be brought against them. She looked over at them with a smug smirk.
"Not as long," she started, "As we are not caught. If we can break out by morning, we will be able to sleep in our soft beds in our cooled houses. We don't all have to go through the vent you know. Naturally the smallest will have to go and try to find a way to bust the door open from the outside. And since you claim to be so helpful, and since YOU got us into this mess in the first place, you can be the one to go...Ren."
It was almost like fire to say his name with her tounge, but she swallowed her anger and gathered a desk up. She cringed inwardly when she saw Ren blushing at her brother. What the hell could he be thinking in that sick mind of his? Placing the desk directly below the silent vent, she climbled up and examined the vent. She took a pen out of her bag, one of her good steel ones, then pryed it into the vent, tugging it loose. Then with a couple bangs of her fist (which really hurt), it flopped open and their escape route had been opened. Unfortunately, since this was one of the spare classrooms, the desks that were stored were only for emergency use. In short, they were not strong enough for someone to stand on. Mana was so busy with her prying that she didn't see the desk start to fold beneath her. She realized it, however, a little late as the desk gave way as she came falling down to the hard tile floor with a squeak.
((Okay I did this for a reason. I thought it would be funny and ironic as hell if Ren saved her, for Mithos's sake. That means that both Mithos and MANA would owe him one. But then again, it is kind of far fetched seeing as he said that he had a grudge against her. So I am leaving it up to you two. Either Mithos or Ren could catch her. It's up to you. *evil smirk*))

[ooh! me! memememe! pick me!]
Ren looked at her and followed at a distance of five feet. She hadn't given him a chance to remind her that crawling through vents only worked in movies, and nine times out of ten they led to the furnace. Ren didn't need to crawl out to get them free. He could break it open from the inside.
As she fell, Ren grabbed her instinctively. She fell quite nicely into his arms, as if in some foreign past life they'd actually been made for her. As Ren examined his catch however, he gave her a look of general displeasure and foisted her back on Mithos, in to his waiting, yet slower, arms. He'd been further from the incident and probably wouldn't have been able to catch her, which probably meant it was a good thing Ren had followed. Otherwise there would have been a Mana pancake on the classroom floor. On a second thought, Ren probably would've preferred the latter.
"...That's unnecessary. You said vandalism is fine as long as we don't get caught? Well then. It's a little past 8 and I bet the janitors have long gone. Then i'll just break down the door, and you can go." Ren said so calmly, walking over to the breifcase he'd been carrying with him all day. With two sharp snaps, he picked up Houraiken, the Tao family heirloom sword.
"First though. I'm just curious." Ren paused, and turned to look at Mithy. The comment from earlier... still bothered him. "Have you ever killed anyone?"
Ren expected shock, so he went over to complete his business with the door. "Mana? I'll show you some of that 'Black Magic' now. Bason!" Ren summoned the ghost to his hand and fused it with the weapon in his other. He plunged the sword into the tile floor and it entered like a hot knife in butter, an almost ghostly quality to it. From the floor in front of the door, weapons errupted like a volcano, coming up diagonally to skewer the door. Ren pulled up the sword and examined the damage, a pile of wood shards laying were the door once was. Bason re-emerged from the sword when he sensed Ren's satisfaction.
"Alright. I suppose i'll see you tomarrow then?" Ren took a look at the siblings, then went back to grabbing all his books together. It had been too long a day.

Mithos set his sister on her feet softly, then looked to Ren, a little surprised at the question. He was silent for a moment, watching Ren break the door open with what Mithos thought was an excessive ammount of force. "...Yeah." He replied simply, quietly, as he picked up his things and slung his bag over his shoulder, waiting for his sister. "Yeah, I have."

Mana closed her eyes and waited for impact but it never came. Instead she felt a pair of strong arms around her that definately rivaled Mithos's. She opened her eyes into a pair of golden pools. Somehow, this all seemed so familar to her. But that was impossible right? She never would have had anything to do with people like Ren. But still, he did save her from a pretty nasty head injury. Then as if reality set into play, she was forced into the arms of her brother, who set her down nicely.
She stayed silent as she watched Ren set to work. The little "Black Magic" comment kind of made her stomach jump. But she wasn't altogether sure why. She watched him in a small amount of awe as he made quick work of the door and walked through. She listened carefuly, picking up her book, as Ren asked Mithos if he had ever killed anyone. Mana went pale just a little bit as Mithos answered. She remembered that fateful night as if it were a nightmare. That night in London, when Tom made his original trip to Japan for the first time to settle the terms with the millitary. Mithos saved her from a most horrible fate, but in the end took the life of another because of it. Her skin gaveway to goosebumps just remembering it all.
"Come on Mithos," she said taking him by the arm, almost protectively, "I want to go home. The bath and the bed are calling to me."
They walked in silence for a long time. Mana was going over all in her mind that had happened that night. How something so unfortunate should make light of events now. Mana would have been a fool to not have learned a lesson from that night. But that feeling in Ren's arms made her most uneasy. She aimed for it never to happen again and vowed to foget about it for good.
"I'm sorry, " she began, "That I'm such a pain in the ass for a sister. I promise, from here on out, that I will leave you and your new friend alone. What you do with him is none of my business and when we are at school I will stay on my side. I suppose that is the least I could do. He did save my life, but please don't remind him of that. I don't think he is the type to hold it over my head, but still I would rather pay him back in my own way. I don't know if we will ever all be friends. I am no fortune teller. But, for all that you have put up with since becoming my brother, I will leave you and Ren alone. And anything else you ask of me I will do. Got it?"

As Mithy answered, Ren sighed internally. He'd kind of hoped otherwise. That he didn't have the balls to kill someone when push came to shove. There were too many people by the logic of kill or be killed, and it was one of the phrases Ren hated most of all. But also... Mithy had seemed so nice. And it almost hurt to see someone like that burdened by that kind of sin. Ren knew all too well how it felt.
"That's a shame." Ren said quietly as everyone left, and Ren went by a different exit. The walk back to Funbari Hills was longer and more tedious in this heat, and especially after such a long day. After dropping his things at the Inn, he found Yoh right where he expected him to be. Up at the top of Monument hill, sitting on Amidamaru's grave, staring up at the stars. Utterly at peace with the world... dear God, did Ren envy him. He joined him up there silently until it got late, when they walked home together.
"Ne, Ren." Yoh smiled at him, hands stuffed nonchalantly in his pockets. "What?" Ren gave him an unamused look, his usual flat face. "Why'd you come home so late? Anna made me do the cleaning since you weren't home..." "Hmph, I was locked in a classroom with a couple of idiots. I seem to attract them. Nothing new." Yoh could seem to tell there was more to the story. He always could. But he never asked. "Soo... you make any new friends?" Yoh giggled. "Not on your life. No one's worth my time." Yoh smirked, in that loopy way that gave him such charm. "Yea? Well then since you've got nobody at school to stay for, you gonna come home early and wash the dishes and make dinner for me?" He giggled again. "Those are your chores." Ren looked at him. "And cleaning the Inn is yours." "You want repayment?" Ren raised a brow. Yoh just smiled and shrugged. "Naaaah..." Yoh paused. "Anna might throttle you for making me work harder though." "That's so like her. Why would you marry that witch?" "She's not that bad, Ren. Nobody is." Ren looked at him, then looked away and nodded. They walked all the way home to the Inn, where Ren, as expected, got an earfull about how he better intend on doing double the workload the following day. Her nagging never bothered him much, he wasn't a slacker like Yoh, so he just waved her off and fled to his room. His head greated his cool pillow and his body the soft futon. 'Nobody was that bad', Yoh's words always had an imapct on him. Nobody was bad, it was just circumstance, he'd said so before. There were times when he just couldn't believe it. But he supposed, he'd have to do his best to start again the following day. He was fine by Yoh's philosophy, but he'd thought so many times that day how much Mana could benefit from meeting Yoh herself. Maybe he could knock the racist bullshit out of her. Well... that wasn't his style. But somehow... he always seemed to be able to cure what ailed you.

Mithos nodded quietly, putting his arm around Mana's shoulders as they finally trudged into the house. Tom was stood in the hallway, leaning against the wall, and looked up. "...Everything alright?" He asked worriedly, taking in thier somber attitudes and Mithos' many visible bruises. The scotsman had been waiting in the hallway for almost four hours, not having eaten. Helga had told him he shouldn't worry after 'his babes' so much, but had not convinced him into having dinner before they got back.

Mana smiled softly and leaned into her brother as they made their way home. It was all so familar. It felt like that horrible night. The night that Mithos saved her life from those thugs. How he knew where she was was still a mystery to her. But she was glad all the same. She never looked down on her brother for that night and anyone else that would know of it would not look down on him either. Mithos did what he had to do to protect her, that she understood. She only hoped that one day she could return that sort of kindness back. Until then she would forever owe him her life. Neither of them told Tom about the incident and they thought it best to leave it alone. What good would come of it now?
"Mithos," she said as they got up to the door, "You are my hero."
They stepped in and was met by a very worried Tom and a smiling Helga right behind him.
"I told you they can take care of themselves," she said as she nodded and walked past them, "I will draw the baths."
Mana smiled as Tom spoke. She went up to him and gave him a big hug. Her family was the most important thing in her life. Now she realized that while her father was gone, he knew what he was doing leaving her with Tom. Tom made a great father himself.
"We are fine," she said looking at him, "Just a rough first day of kickboxing is all. Nothing a good bath won't cure. I hope their is some dinner left."
They went through the rest of the night peacefully. Pretty much after dinner and a bath, both Mana and Mithos hit their beds and fell asleep. It had been a long day for them. Mana couldn't help but be pleased with her first day. It was more eventful that she ever thought it could be and she fell asleep with a mild curiosity of what adventures would await them tomarow.
